Q: Anyone has experience taking an online nursing degree class at the University of phoenix?
I was just wondering what anyone's experiences are with this. I live in Washnington state. Online classes are great and all, but how do you really earn a nursing degree online without the hands on and lab experience that you would get in a classroom?
A: University of Phoenix offers nursing and many other degree programs at campus locations in many states, and you may be eligible to be accepted for one of those programs. Online nursing programs are only available for individuals who already possess a valid license as either a Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse however.
There are no legitimate online nursing degree programs for those who aren't already nurses primarily due to the reasons you stated above, nursing programs are a blend of academic, laboratory, and hands on clinical training.
As far as University of Phoenix goes, however, it is one of the pioneers of accredited distance education programs, and long before there was such as thing as online education, UoP worked in conjunction with numerous hospitals offering advanced nursing educational programs and classes at the hospital so nurses could earn an advanced nursing degree without sacrificing their job in the process.
They have also provided advanced distance and on-site educational opportunities for members of the armed forces and Dept. of Veteran's Affairs for many years, so a nursing degree from University of Phoenix is widely recognized and accepted by hospitals, other health care employers, and the US Government.
According to their web site they have several campus locations in Washington: http://www.phoenix.edu/campus_locations.html
Best wishes for a future nursing career!

Q: Are online nursing degrees frowned upon?
Like a good majority of the world, I'm contemplating going back for a nursing degree. I'm 40 with 2 small children (5 and 3) and would like to be flexible. Are online nursing courses frowned upon? There are obviously some that require onsite training but for those that don't, is that the best approach? Are there any reputable online programs that are accredited?
A: To be honest I don't even know how they even let those go. It seems ridiculous to me, I wouldn't want a nurse who obtained her degree online.
for the ones that don't require on site training, how do you get your clinical hours in. I guess I just don't understand.
I think you should go to a conventional nursing program, no it isn't flexible, yes it is an extremely rigid schedule but you can do it.
My kids are 5 and 2 and I am. It's hard and I have no clue about this fall because my schedule is about to get very extreme. But I will work it out and I'm sure you can as well. Get your pre reqs done online, because unless you have been to college already you will have a lot. and then apply for a program. you might not really see your kids for a few years but you will be doing something for their future.
EDIT: At my school for my nursing classes, I can not pick when I go, although they are during the day right now. My adviser told me that for next fall that I can clear out my entire thursday and friday because I will have no way of knowing when my clinicals will be schedule, plus I have to go to the hospital on wednesday to pull my patients files and research everything about every drug they are on and every condition they have and write 10 page care plans. Then on Monday and Wednesday I also have classes, I am not sure when else, I think my Tuesdays are free in the fall.
I took everything I could early and don't get a break until Christmas except 1 week in August. But my school gets down to it. It is a satellite school (branch off of a larger university) so I suppose they have short man's syndrome. lol.
Oh yeah definitely get your Bachelor's at the minimum, I know you are thinking I'm forty but it's not like it's that much longer.
Q: Has anyone finished online nursing school and working as a nurse?
How long did it take? Were you able to take the nursing exam and pass?
Please, no opinions...just answers from actual online nursing graduates. If any.
Thanks, Pam!
Any other people out there who done the same?
Which online school? Where was clinicals?
Pass the NCLEX?
After passing, how hard/easy was it to be employed?
A: I grad from online schl --Excelsior College and working as charge nurse now. Since online is independent study. It really depends on you. You study each subject, when you are ready to take the exam, then you register and pay for it and schedule the exam. For mine it took 6 months to complete all the theory. My clinical hands on was a 3-day comprehensive exam with actual patients. Once you have pass theory and clinical, then you are eligible to take the NCLEX-RN. Pass it and you become a licensed RN then the opportunities are endless (except in California where they don't accept Excelsior grads anymore). Best of luck to you!
BTW, you have to have a very good clinicals already if you choose to do Excelsior. What I mean, is you must have work in medical field (EMT, Medical assistant, paramedics, etc) already ---knows how to take vitals, assess patients...basic stuff.
Q: Can you take the prerequisites for nursing school online?
My husband is in the military, and for convenience, I'd like to know if I would possibly be able to complete an associate's of science degree (so I could go to nursing school) online.
And if so, would it be credible? I don't want to do a lot of work, and then not be accepted into a nursing school. Any recommendations?
A: As long as they are taken through an accredited school they would be fine. Some classes aren't given online though (usually those with labs).
I'd recommend getting the best grades possible, and volunteering in a healthcare environment.
Q: what online nursing courses can help me get profession in that field?
can u give me some web sites of online courses.
A: You cannot become a nurse online. Nursing programs include clinicals and skills labs. You may be able to complete some prerequisites online but not the actual nursing program.
Q: can any1 recomend a specific online nursing abbreviation dictionary to help me in my studys?
I have just started in a hospital in the uk and all the nurses use abreviations... I wondering if any1 could help me out with a web site to answer my questions or recomend a book?
A: Here is the site that I use when I stuck with some medical acronym or abbreviation
Q: What are the admission requirements for online nursing programs?
Please help. Thanks.
A: Online nursing degree programs generally have the same admission requirements as standard credit-granting courses on campus. Each college or university has its own criteria. Variables may include such factors as GPA, prior degree, and completion of standardized tests for admissions to graduate programs, while others might not require admissions tests. Online nursing degree students are not confined by geographic constraints and enjoy the huge advantage of having a much broader selection of schools available to them to choose from. Applicants for online nursing degree programs would be well advised to request information from several schools offering their desired degree in order to compare admission criteria and select the one that`s best for them.
Q: What do you think of an online nursing assistant training ?
I would like to start this as a business. Do you think people will welcome the idea?
I will of course incorporate a clinical component in a nursing home.
This is for nurse aides or CNA's
A: This is great idea! Clinical component is very important, of course, as practice, because practice is most important in this profession. But studying online is beautiful chance to learn theoretical part. Online business have strong potential nowadays.
I work for online project http://www.choiceeldercare.org/ that makes lives of hundreds of seniors and their relatives much easier because it is so easy to find nurse or caregiver with our service.
I wish you good luck and success with your opening!

im a 23 year old stay at home wife and mother of 2 just wanting to get started on a nursing program while i stay at home with my baby's and have no time to attend classes so i think online classes r my best bet please help in any way please do
A: There is one nursing school that I know about and that is Chamberlain College of nursing. They are based in Columbus Oh. They have online classes but you have to do your clinicals in Columbus. That is what I am going to do, I live in columbus.
Im telling you, it is hard finding online nursing classes without having an associate degree in nursing. I have been trying to find one for YEARS. This is the only one that I have found
Q: How can you get online nursing tutors for first year?
I am currently in my clinical but the lectures and exams are hard for me.
A: Do you work at a hospital, Maybe you can find a mentor there who can help you. Our local hospital actually has started a Mentoring program for that reason.
You might also look in yahoo for a study group to help you. I found a study partner for all my classes and that seemed to really help me. So either look at your school for someone in the classes who would be willing to start a study group with you or look online in yahoo.
